VECGULBENE MANOR

In the south of Gulbene manor complex  was founded close to the medieval fortified castle. Since 1802 the estate passed into the possession of Baron von Wolff. The modern appearance of the complex was formeing during the 19th – 20th centuries.

The complex consists of 2 main buildings: the White Castle was built in Neo-Renaissance style and the Red Castle – built in the Gothic Revival style. On the territory well preserved manor buildings – an arena, a creamery, a greenhouse, sheds, a cattle kitchen, house domestic workers.

White Castle was built in 1763, but was rebuilt many times. With the wide staircase and a terrace on the garden side of the estate is inherent in the spirit of Renaissance villas. The castle was repeatedly destroyed by fire in the fire, but was always  restored.

Manor parks were created in the 19th century in honor of his wife Marisa baron. They can be safely described as a lifelong contribution to Baron Heinrich. In fact that one of the parks was created in honor of his father Baron Rudolf.

The construction of parks in Gulbene was started by Baron Wolf immediately after the purchase of the Vecgulbene estate in the 40-50s of the 19th century and continued to improve them throughout the 2nd side of the 19th century. The original area of the parks was about 500 hectares, including parks around two palaces – the castle Park and Rudolph Park.

Both landscape parks contain elements of romanticism aesthetics: several artificial ponds with islands and bridges have been created.

The total area of the remaining parks in Gulbene is only 179 hectares.

The Palace was formed near a medieval fortified Palace, from which its location is visible. The area of 19.25 hectares, with 3 ponds and a river Kristalice. To the East of the Central building is a wide open-plan Park with small fields that include exotic groups with accents of coniferous trees.
