PALACE COMPLEX OF COUNT PLATER

Castle of Counts Plateri also called as Kraslava castle is built in 18th century and is national architectural monument.

At first, the castle was built in a baroque style, but it was rebuilt in the early 19th century after classicism canons. The interior murals of the palace walls are from 18th century are Latgale’s most distinguished monument. In addition to the palace, house buildings were constructed: the houses of the palace manager and gardener, the weather, the stables, ice bases and the orangeiy.

Around the palace, a landscape park of about 22 ha was set up on the slopes of the Daugava Valley. Its dendrological composition is also very extensive, around 70 different species of trees and shrubs. A grotto has been restored in the park with the mysterious “underground passage” and the palace watchman – the lion.
