Malpils Manor is among the most elegant monuments of Classicism found in Vidzeme.
Malpils Manor was built in 1760. Like many other mansions in Latvia, it was burnt down during the revolution of 1905. Afterwords the manor’s restoration was commissioned by its landlord Alexander von Grote, and the task was entrusted to an esteemed Baltic German architect Wilhelm Bockslaff. The reconstruction was completed in 1911, and the building acquired its present-day appearance.
During the governance years of baron von Taube (18th c.) the backyard of the Malpils Manor was reshaped into a romantic Baroque park with garden paths, a lovers’ bridge and picturesque ponds.
The manor park had many dendrologically valuable plants.
The area of the Park is 8 ha, of which 3 ponds occupy 0.64 ha.
Nowadays the romantic Baroque park of Malpils Manor has regained its charm – the unusual stillness and tranquility, the purling sound of the pond fountain and the overall atmosphere of antiquity. The manor surroundings accommodate a garden of flowers and aromatic herbs, two fountains, and ponds with blossoming waterlilies. The footpath benches were made from the trees growing in the same park. Baron von Taube’s obelisk has been renovated as well. Various leisure activities are offered: romantic outings in a wooden boat, drinking coffee in a little wooden teashed, walking on the lovers’ bridge.
