GAUJIENA MANOR

The Central part of the building of the castle was formed at the end of the 18th century, and the castle was built in 1850-1860 in the style of late classicism, and then supplemented with a 6-column portico. There are two lions at the front door of the castle. The castle has partially preserved the original interior decoration. Since 1922, the castle has been home to the Gaujiena gymnasium. The former home of the brewer’s estate, where the composer Joseph Vitols lived from 1922 to 1944, is now home to the Anninas memorial Museum.

The Park is located on the banks of the Gauja river, including the development of the estate ensemble. The Park was created at the beginning of the 19th-20th century. The protected area of the Park is 17.4 ha. Near the Central building there is not a large, regular front yard, and around the ruins and the terraced Park on the slope of the ancient coast of Gauja there are free planning groups. The Park can be divided into three distinct parts. The upper Park, or courtyard, includes the large buildings of the estate development. House of brewer’s, or the Museum of “Anninas” source “Lauvasmutes”, ponds and choral stage. The area between the Gauja and the shore, which includes romantic nature trails along the river Gauja and, looking up, offers a view of the buildings of the estate ensemble and the ruins of the castle. Local and foreign tree species are planted in the Park.
