NAUKSENI MANOR

Naukseni manor is a two-story manor house located in the Naukseni municipality, Naukseni parish, in the historical region of Vidzeme, northern Latvia. Built in 1820, it was renovated in 1843 by Friedrich Gottlieb Gläser in Empire style according to the drafts made by its landlord Heinrich Wilhelm von Groth. Additional modifications were made at the end of the 19th century and again in 1938. Between 1920 and 1957 the building functioned as a children’s home. It now houses the Naukseni local history museum.

The Park, together with the forest Park, covers an area of more than 50 hectares, on the banks of the Ruja river. The estate’s decorative garden was started in the late 17th century, and later it was included in the landscape Park. The area between the castle and the farm buildings is a regular layout, with clipped hedges, gravel paths, lawns, shrubs and groups of trees. The South-Western part is a free layout with wide fields and perspectives of views. On the native grave leads an alley of Dutch linden trees, and beyond them the Park turns into a forest. Two ponds. The Park has excellent architectural and dendrological value. This serves as a place of rest. The Park is home to rare trees such as walnut, cork, Siberian fir, and protected trees such as cedar, European larch, and silver maple.
