UNGURPILS MANOR

Ungurpils or Pirkule castle was the castle of the Archbishop of Riga. Pirkule as a castle was mentioned in 1326. 1399. Pirkule Castle was bought by Gethard from Hungary, who later was called Ungerny. Pirkule belonged to the Ungerny family until 1760. The Latvian name of the castle – Ungurpils -also came from the name of the owners. From 1575 to 1581.

A manor was formed on the site of the 17th-century castle. Instead of the old castle, a new house of the Lord was built and a garden was installed, as a result of which the old ditches of the fortifications were partially filled in.

The Park has an area of 5.65 hectares. Characteristic features of the landscape layout, irregular areas, but the roads are surrounded by alleys. On the side of the Dzirnavu lake Park on a terrace that may be remnants of the system of fortifications of the former Pirkule castle. The plantings are based on local species. Artificially created lakes with floating Islands. There are ruins of a medieval castle near Ungurpils Park.
